“The direction was gradually established. “I hope to be with the NC Dinos until the end when they achieve their best results.”
Hyeongjun Yoon (NC) did not care about various bad news, such as being excluded from the first team spring camp list and recruiting a foreign batsman in the same position. Rather, he was working to improve his skills with greater motivation.
Hyeongjun Yoon, a graduate of Mudeung Middle School and Jinheung High School, is a right-handed pitching infielder with a physique of 186 cm and 97 kg. He entered the professional ranks after being called by NC with the 31st overall pick in the 4th round in 2013, and has been active in NC again since the 2021 season after going through the LG Twins.
In particular, Hyungjun Yoon had a meaningful time last year. He appeared in 82 games, a personal high, and showed further growth by sweeping a batting average of 0.252 (55 hits in 218 at-bats), 5 home runs, and 27 RBIs.
Hyeong-Jun Yoon, who recently met at Masan Baseball Stadium, where the NC C Team (NC 2nd District)'s CAMP 2 (Spring Camp) is in full swing, said about 2023, “Overall, all numbers, including the number of games and number of at-bats, were the highest in my career. I had never played a full season before, so I was curious about what the numbers would be, but seeing what I did last year gave me confidence. “It was a season where we had a clear direction on how to prepare based on our records,” he said.
At the same time, he said, “Last year, new coaches Song Ji-man and Jeon Min-soo came. I wasn't able to play many games in the 2022 season and there was a lot of confusion, but after the season ended and before going to spring camp in Arizona, USA, I took time to sort out my thoughts. Coach Ji-man Song and Coach Min-soo Jeon helped me a lot in mental training,” he said. “I invested more time in establishing a routine than in batting. “The direction was gradually established,” he said, nodding his head.
Hyeongjun Yoon continued, “I realized through training what kind of batsman I am and what my strengths are. As he practiced without any confusion, it was clear which path to take. That was the biggest help. As we played a lot of games in that situation, the results came naturally. Because the results were good, I gained confidence and was certain of the direction. “I also trained to control my emotions consistently throughout the season,” he added.
However, the end of the season was disappointing. He swung the bat well until July, but his batting average was 0.189 in August and 0.125 in September. Afterwards, Hyungjun Yoon was excluded from the postseason entry, and was unable to join NC's journey from the wild card game to the playoffs.
Regarding his pace dropping in the second half of the season, Hyungjun Yoon said, “There was no problem in terms of physical strength. Since I showed a good performance in the first half of the season, I think the opposing team analyzed me well and dug into me. I prepared in my own way, but since it was done by humans, it didn't work out the way I wanted to. “I tried to do well, but I think the opposing team prepared a little better,” he said. “I think that if I analyze and study a lot, I will get better results than last year.” “There was no significant physical or technical decline or technical confusion,” he emphasized.
In addition, looking back on the fall baseball season, he said, “I wanted to enter the lineup, but the situation was not good. So close. “I had enough confidence that I could show a good performance,” he said. “I wasn’t able to get in because I wasn’t good enough.” I thought it would be good if I prepared a little better and entered the entry program this year. “I watched it while rooting for my team members, hoping they would do well,” he said.
